Abreu |
All
Star Group clients Miguel Abreu (Orioles), Donovan Hand (Brewers)
and Jorge Padilla (Nationals) were selected to play in their respective
league's 2009 All Star Game.
Abreu and
Hand are both having tremendous success in their first taste of Double-A ball.
Abreu has been the Bowie BaySox' most consistent player, batting .301/.319/.410
in eighty-seven games, along with a team-leading twenty-one stolen bases. The
selection is Miguel's third all star berth. Abreu had previoslu been selected
to the 2006 NY-Penn League All Star Game, as well as the 2007 Hawaii Winter Baseball
post-season All Star Team.
Hand has shuffled
between the Huntsville Stars' rotation and bullpen all season, proving effective
in both roles. As a reliever, Donovan is 2-1 with a 1.91 ERA and a 3/1 SO/BB ratio.
In the rotation Hand is 5-1 in eight starts, pitching 43.2 innings and walking
only nine in his starts. Overall, the 2009 Souther League All Star sports a 7-2
record and 3.05 ERA in twenty-three games.
Padilla
is having a career year at Triple-A, which has him poised for a possible big league
promotion soon. Jorge is currently leading the Triple-A International League in
hitting at .364. He also has an OPS just under .900 and has stolen 11 bases. Padilla
has also show excellent plate discipline, garnering almost as many base on balls
as strikeouts.
ASG would like
to congratulate all three on thei selection.
